Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the answers to some commonly asked questions about our organization. Have any additional questions or need clarification? Email us or direct message us on Instagram!
1 / When can/should I rush?
You may rush ESA at any point during your time at JMU. We have people rush at a variety of stages from their first semester at JMU to their last! We believe that it's never too late to find your people!
3 / I missed rush and want to join! What should I do?
We have informal recruitment each semester, so if you are interested in joining and our formal recruitment season has ended, please contact us as soon as possible via email or Instagram direct message.
5 / If I join ESA, can I participate in other Greek organizations as well?
ESA is a professional service-oriented Greek organization. Our members are welcome to join any other Greek or non-Greek organizations while maintaining membership in ESA. We strongly recommend checking with any additional organization(s) you plan on joining to make sure participating in ESA is not a violation of their policies.
2 / What does "non-competitive" mean?
Being non-competitive means that we welcome everyone as long as you complete our recruitment requirements!
4 / What does the time commitment look like?
Being active in ESA is definitely manageable alongside other commitments. Many of our brothers have multiple majors/minors, work, do research, and are heavily involved in other campus organizations as well. Our executive board works hard each semester to plan events at a variety of days/times to fit the different scheduling needs of brothers.
6 / Why should I join ESA instead of a non-Greek volunteer organization?
Non-Greek volunteer organizations are great! In fact, we often partner with them and support their work on and off campus. However, joining ESA offers a unique combination of a volunteer group and a professional Greek organization. This means that, in addition to volunteering, we have many Greek life traditions including Bigs and Littles, rush, Bid Day, initiation, and letters. Our traditions and networking opportunities will allow you to foster lifelong friendships while giving back to the community.
